Venturesome, Tinco and The Lie: new Devir pockets

The pocket family is growing! Devir starts 2025 with the publication of three new pocket collection games, a line of titles characterized by their compact format, ideal for taking anywhere, their affordable price, affordable for everyone, and by the variety of their themes, which fit into any game library. With these new additions, the pocket collection now has 15 games since its launch.

Venturesome is the spiritual heir to the famous Palastgeflüster, both by Michael Rieneck. In this game we must form an expedition team to recover as many artifacts as possible. It is forbidden to repeat expedition members and each one has a different power that affects the game, so it is key to know when to play each card. On the other hand, Tinco is a classic originally published in 2011 by Gustavo Barreto and Alessandro de Oliveira, in which players try to form a specific set of cards during several rounds. Finally, The Lie, designed by Eloi Pujadas and Eugeni Castaño, is a game where appearances can be deceiving. One side of the cards shows a color and a number, but on the other side one or the other has changed. Players will have to adapt in each game to get as many points as possible.

Venturesome

Ideal for: Groups of intrepid explorers

Adventurers, treasure awaits! In this fast-paced card game, you recruit a diverse group of adventurers in hopes of finding a host of ancient treasures. You'll need to use the skills of your expedition members and be wary of ever-present threats. You'll also need to try to thwart the plans of your rivals, who are willing to steal, manipulate, or use any dirty trick at their disposal to get their hands on your artifacts and claim victory.

Each turn you must play one character card from your hand onto the table and resolve its effect. This means that your expedition will grow with each subsequent turn. The members of the expedition must be different, so at some point in the game, it will become impossible to play another card. When this happens, you will end your participation in the current round, resolve one of the available threat cards, and set aside the collected expedition members, which will form your personal treasure pile. These cards will give you points at the end of the game. Threat cards, however, will affect your expedition members and the treasures and artifacts you have collected.

Created by Michael Rieneck and illustrated by Paulina Opak, Venturesome is the spiritual successor of Palastgeflüster. As with that title, it is very difficult to predict the outcome of each round during the game. Now it is time to decide: Do you want to save your skin and search for treasure or ruin your opponents' plans? You can always try to do both… if you are willing to take the risk!

Tinco

Ideal for: Aspiring kung fu masters who want to prove their worth

Kung Fu students, the time has come to show to your Master all that you have learned. The final test is an epic showdown against fearsome animal forms: battling mantises, celestial dragons, sublime cranes, fierce tigers, slithering serpents, majestic eagles, and trickster monkeys. If you succeed, you will be rewarded with fragments of the Medallion of Harmony, allowing you to ascend the Tower of Harmony. The Master awaits at the top of the tower… Will you master superior kung fu, or will you fall to discord?

In a game of Tinco, there are no turns: everyone plays simultaneously. In order to collect a set of five cards that show the same element, (a certain animal or colour), players will exchange cards. When one of the participants gets the Tinco (a set of five cards), they must rush to grab one of the medallion fragments that will be on the table. The rest must pay attention to claiming the other fragments if they do not want to lose positions in the tower. After a series of rounds, whoever occupies the highest place in the tower of harmony wins the game.

The Lie

Ideal for: Young and old who want to try their luck

In The Lie, all the cards are lying! On the back, they show numbers from 1 to 4 in 4 different colors. However, when you turn them over, something has changed, either their color or their number. You must play cleverly to combine the highest numbers of the same color. Each round consists of two phases: building the playing hand and playing the cards. In the first, everyone plays at the same time, taking cards from the center of the table to form a hand of 12 cards. However, you are never sure which card you are taking, since the back of the cards is lying: either the color or the number will be different when you turn them over.

In the card playing phase, players may play a combination of cards from their hand. This combination may be 1 card or a group of 2 or 3 cards of the same color that are adjacent to each other in their hand. The next player may pass or play a combination of cards of the same color as the set played by the player who started the round, forming a number that exceeds the previous one. Turns will continue until someone runs out of cards, at which point points are distributed.

Designed by Eloi Pujadas and Eugeni Castaño, The Lie is a game with very few rules and a lot of replayability. Ideal for any kind of player or gaming group. The youngest players will learn to form numerical combinations, while the older players will find it a great challenge to manage the cards in order to quickly end up with an empty hand. And all of this is seasoned with a touch of chance, thanks to the “lying back” of the cards. Are you ready to play with numbers?
